I chose to go with a Joytech 540C (£17.99 from ) recently to merely act as my optical switch. Also found it unreliable in regularly sending a signal and would occasionally need clicking back into place.
Build quality of the unit is excellent and there does not seem to be any degradation in quality of picture.Īs for toslink switches, I used the one in the OP's second link for sometime and found that my PS3 refused to take a signal through it. I have checked my emails and I paid £36.99 for this delivered for the 4 port so beware sellers making a fast buck from the "new" technology(**EDIT** should have said, the seller I got it from was iworld_uk but can't find it there now). I have this Digi Media HDMI switch and it has been superb for me:
